Architectural Design

Project 2
Contextual Fit
The objective of this project was to add an addition to Richard Meier's house while keeping the originality of the home. We were tasked to meet needs of the new family's desire for the extension and hold on to Meier's distinct design.
Narrative
The Hussein family have just purchased the Smith House and have demanded modifications to be made to their new home. They desire to have the family room as the “sacred” part of the house with a concept that allows them to have open space which can function as an area for Islamic purposes . The father of the family recently retired and would like to spend more time praying. Although the Hussein family has requested to make adjustments, they understand the originality of the Smith home and do not want to make significant changes. The Hussein family are anxious to see the final result of the home in which they can practice their Islamic beliefs in peace. It is our role to fulfill the needs of what the Hussein family is seeking for, while maintaining Richard Meier’s distinct design.
